Selected Works

A handful of pieces I'm proud of, with notes on the materials, processes, and techniques behind each one.

Hand-built ceramic pumpkin with a sculpted smiling face and orange underglaze
Work 01

Pumpkin Face

Hand-built using pinch and coil techniques to create the rounded gourd form. Facial features including eyes, teeth, and ridged skin texture were sculpted and attached using score and slip. Orange underglaze was applied to the leather-hard surface with a dark glaze used on the stem. Finished with a clear glaze and fired in an electric kiln.

Wheel-thrown mug with a deep brown celadon glaze and pulled handle
Work 02

Brown Celadon Mug

Wheel-thrown with a pulled handle. A deep brown celadon glaze was applied over the stoneware body with a yellow underglaze accent, then fired in an electric kiln to bring out the rich, glassy surface of the celadon.

Olive Earth Bowl with mottled green and yellow earth-tone glaze, alternate angle
Work 03

Olive Earth Bowl

Wheel-thrown and trimmed with a footed base. An earth-tone glaze was applied to the interior and exterior, developing natural color variation and crazing during firing. The organic quality of the surface reflects the unpredictability of the kiln.

Small raku-fired bowl with crackle glaze and smoky carbon tones
Work 04

Small Raku Bowl

Wheel-thrown and trimmed, then raku fired. Pulled from the kiln while still glowing and placed into combustible material, the rapid cooling caused the glaze to contract at a different rate than the clay body, producing a network of fine crackle lines and smoky carbon tones across the surface that reference patterns found in dried earth and aged organic materials.

Double-Face Sculpture

Hand-built using coil and pinch techniques. Two expressive faces were sculpted emerging from a shared form, with detailed features built up through additive clay work and score and slip joining throughout. Finished with carved line work and bright underglaze detailing.
